An afternoon nuptial next to a corn field, followed by a barn party in Leelanau County.

On September 27, 2014, Randi Lyn Stoltz and I photographed our third and final wedding of the season — we feel very fortunate to have finished out our first wedding photography season on such a beautiful fall day with Matt and Rachel!

My friend Maggie knew that this young couple was on a budget for their wedding, so she volunteered to do their flowers, and another friend made their beautiful rosemary-lavender cakes. Maggie suggested that Matt and Rachel ask if Randi and I were available to photograph their wedding, and could we do it within their budget: we were and we could, so we did!

The girls got (mostly) ready at Rachel’s parents’ beautiful Leelanau County home (which, funny enough, is just a few miles from where I lived until I was six years old!), which is where Rachel had spent the night before. Meanwhile, the guys got ready at a family-friend’s barn just down the road where the reception was going to be held. (NOTE: The tail end of the girls getting ready — well, actually it was just Rachel — happened at the barn owner’s home… otherwise everyone would have seen Rachel getting out of the car in her dress!) The actual ceremony, which was led by Matt’s childhood pastor, took place just outside the barn, with the backdrop of a cornfield. Rachel’s little sister, Amanda, was her maid-of-honor. We took some fun shots with the bridal party next to the barn and in the corn field, and we took some special family shots, including one with four generations of the matriarchs of Matt’s family, including his great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother.

Overall, it was a fun and beautiful Northern Michigan afternoon; a great way to end the wedding photography season!
